Masoor Dhal Recipe | Tadka Dal | Dal Tadka Recipe | Bengali Massor Dal
Masoor dal / dhal (Spiced Red Lentils) is extremely delicious and flavourful red lentil soup. A handful of ingredients and this easy Masoor dal comes together in no more than 20 minutes. Then you add the Tadka to make it more flavourful and colourful which you can skip if you want. Masoor dhal is a must in an everyday menu in almost every Bengali house.
INGREDIENTS
- Red Lentils -1 cup (200g)
- Oil - 2 tbsp
- Whole cumin seeds -1 tsp
- Curryleaves - 4 to 5 count
- Finely chopped onions - 1 medium size
- Ginger & Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
- Slitted green chilies - 4
- Salt - 1 heaped tsp
- Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
- Chopped tomatoes - 2 medium size
- Chopped coriander leaves - 2 tbsp
- Hot water - 4 cups
FOR TADKA
- Oil /ghee - 2 tbsp
- Chopped garlic cloves - 2
- Whole cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Dried red chilli - 2
- Curry leaf - 1 count
- Red chilli powder - 1/4 tsp
- Wash the red lentil throughly.
- Keep a pan in medium heat add oil, cumin seeds, Curryleaves and fry for few seconds.
- Then add chopped onions and sauté for 5 minutes.
- Now add ginger & Garlic paste, green chilies then sauté.
- Then also add salt, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and tomatoes sauté for few more minute.
- At this stage add red lentil and fry the Lentils for 2 minutes.
- Add hot water, adjust the amount of water according to your preferences.
- Cover until the Lentils are tender 15 minutes.
- Whisk the Lentils till the Lentils are broken.
- Then add coriander leaves and mix well.
- Transfer the Dahl to a bowl.
- For Tadka keep a pan in medium flame.
- Add oil or ghee garlic fry for few seconds.
- Then add cumin seeds, dried red chilli, curry leaf , red chilli powder then quick stir .
- Add this Tadka to the lentil mix.
- Now tasty and flavourful Masoor dhal is ready to serve.
