Sweet Poli or Paruppu Poli



Easy paruppu poli or sweet poli. Poli is a very popular and traditional sweet. Flat bread prepared during special occasions and festivals. Thereare many variations of this recipe. I have used chana dal and coconut to make this poli. It is very easy to make many of us think doing poli is a very tough task, but believe me it is very simple to make.  



INGREDIENTS 

For the dough

  • Flour (maida)----- 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder ----1/4 tsp
  • Salt ---to taste 
  • water 
  • Oil 2 tbsp

For stuffing or filling

  • Chana dhal--- 1/2 cup
  • Cardamom powder----- 1 tsp
  • Grated Coconut---  1/4 cup 
  • Sugar or jaggery --- 1 cup

METHOD 

For the dough 

1. Take flour in a mixing bowl add turmeric powder and salt add water little by little and knead it to a smooth soft dough. 

2. Cover the mixing bowl and set it aside for 30 minutes. The more the dough rests, the fought becomes more elastic and soft.



For filling is stuffing

1. Take chana dal in a vessel. wash it throughly and soak the dal. And pressure cook for 3 whistles. 

2. After dal boil drain the water if any. AND softly smash the dal with a spoon. DON’T make it too smashy we need some pieces to bite.


3. Take the grated coconut and dry roast for about 2 to 3 minutes. 


4. Now in a mixing bowl add boiled dal, coconut, cardamom powder and sugar or jaggery  (I add sugar). Together and mix well. 

5.  Filling is ready now.

Preparing Poli

1. Take small portion of the dough and spread the dough .

2. Keep little filling in the middle and seal. Make it like a ball.


3. Then spread the stuffed poli with your hand or rolling pin .

4. Such a way repeat the above step for the rest of the dough and the filling. 


Cooking Poli

1. Heat tawa in low heat . Cook each rolled or spread poli in tawa one by one.

2. Add ghee and cook poli on both sides till you can see some brown spots.
